Welcome to my blog
Black Diamond Canyon Kitchen is a blog of growing, raising, buying, and of course, cooking and eating food local to Gallup. It's written by me, Kevin Buggie.
In the foothills of the Zuni Mountains of New Mexico -- Gallup, Ramah, Zuni --the environment is beautiful but challenging for growing food. Sparse rain, heavy soils, and early summer frost are the major hurdles, yet growers persist and many thrive. They have for at least ten centuries.
This is my way of sharing my experience of acquiring seasonal local food for my kitchen, whether it be grown and raised in my garden, or bought locally. All photos and prepared food are my own unless otherwise labeled. Enjoy.

- I teach, farm, explore, cook, sleep, and eat in Gallup, NM. My small farm and homestead of sorts, the cottage, sits among the exposed coal seams of Black Diamond Canyon on Gallup's northside. 16 years in the Land of Enchantment has left green chile running through my veins and gardens, but i'll never forget the wild game of America's northwest or the varied ethnic foods of Africa from my youth, and those far flung flavors still fill my kitchen and fields.
